Apple has officially entered the foldable smartphone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo, its first-ever foldable iPhone. Announced on September 9, 2026, the new device combines Apple’s familiar iPhone experience with a completely redesigned folding form factor.
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch inner display, a 5.4-inch outer screen, Apple’s latest A20 Pro chip, a titanium design, and a redesigned version of iOS built specifically for the foldable format.
What Is the iPhone Duo?
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable smartphone. Unlike a traditional iPhone, the device opens like a book to provide a much larger display while remaining compact when folded.
When closed, users get a 5.4-inch outer display designed for everyday tasks such as messaging, browsing and checking notifications. When opened, the device expands to a 7.6-inch inner display, giving users a much larger area for watching videos, gaming, multitasking and other activities.
Apple says the inner display is 50% larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
iPhone Duo Design and Display
One of the biggest changes is the physical design.
Apple has used a Grade 5 titanium frame and a precision hinge system. The company says the foldable iPhone is designed to be durable while maintaining a thin profile.
The inner 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display features a nano-texture finish designed to reduce glare and reflections. Apple has also worked to make the transition between the inner and outer displays feel consistent by using the same aspect ratio.

Performance Powered by the A20 Pro
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, putting it in the same generation of performance hardware as Apple’s latest Pro iPhones.
The foldable design also required Apple to rethink thermal management. The iPhone Duo uses a custom vapor chamber system to help manage heat during demanding tasks.
Apple has also equipped the phone with a dual-battery architecture designed to provide all-day battery life despite the challenges of fitting batteries into a thin foldable chassis.
Camera System
Apple has redesigned the camera experience around the foldable form factor.

Apple says the device supports Apple Intelligence and its updated Siri AI experience. These features are designed to work with the user’s personal context while maintaining Apple’s approach to privacy and on-device processing where possible.
The combination of a larger display and AI features could make the Duo particularly useful for productivity, multitasking and content creation.
iPhone Duo Price and Availability
Apple has positioned the iPhone Duo as a premium device.
The starting price is $1,999, according to Reuters.
Apple says pre-orders will begin on October 16, 2026, with the iPhone Duo becoming available on October 23, 2026. The phone will initially be offered in two colors: Star White and Night Sky.
